Excavating History
May 12, 2012- May 29, 2012
Excavating History was a collaborative exhibition organized by Professor Rebecca Keller from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with SAIC students Christine Bespalec-Davis, Emmelin Crespi, Tim Adamczyk, Laurie Martin, Talya Feldman, Michaela Hansen, David Alekhougie, Rhonda Lowry, Molly Wilmes, Jannah Tate and Ryan Sahlin.
Jane Addams Hull-House Museum collaborated with the artists of the collective UNSETTLED from SAIC to create an exhibition for their continued project Excavating History. Excavating History explored the category we call History, asking which stories get told and who gets to tell them. The project advanced the discourse around artists, audience, and community, and engaged history as a vital field for art-making. JAHHM offered unique possibilities for using historic research to generate site specific, socially engaged projects. Artworks included sculpture, installation, fiber, performance, video projections, sound, and animation.
