Join us at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum for the Chicago Architecture Center’s Open House Chicago on October 19th & 20th!

Open House Chicago (OHC) is a free annual festival hosted by the Chicago Architecture Center that offers behind-the-scenes access to buildings of architectural, cultural and historical significance.

Hull-House will be offering 2 guided tours each day featuring our new exhibit Radical Craft: Arts Education at Hull-House, 1889-1935. The tours will take place at 1 pm and 3 pm.

Fiona Maxwell, a scholar of Hull-House history, will join us on both Saturday and Sunday from 2-3 pm in the Residents’ Dining Hall to share her narrative accounts of life in the settlement house. Fiona Maxwell is a storyteller, theatre artist and educator, and History PhD candidate at the University of Chicago. She crafts original performance pieces based on her archival research into spoken arts education and political organizing at Progressive Era Chicago settlement houses.

Emily Winter from The Weaving Mill will be on site demonstrating her work on our historic looms on the second floor of the Museum and in the Residents’ Dining Hall. Emily Winter is a weaver based in Chicago. She is co-founder of The Weaving Mill. She has an MFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in History from the University of Chicago.
