Most grassroots activism in Chicago is led by women and queer communities of color, yet their work and legacy are often obscured, erased and overlooked. This program will feature local women and queer activists who work towards social change and explore the continuums in social justice organizing. How are these are remembered, documented, made visible and archived?
Join Hull-House and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for a celebration of women who stood up for democracy and took action. Watch a screening of Dolores (2017), a documentary about United Farm Workers co-founder, Dolores Huerta. After the film take part in a discussion led by Jelena Radovic-Fanta, a 2018 AAUW Fellow and scholar focusing on the endurance and resilience of female seasonal agricultural workers in Chile, and Nadia Sol “Ireri” Unzueta Carrasco, Heritage Garden Educator at the Rafael Cintrón Ortiz Latino Cultural Center, UIC.
In 1931 Jane Addams became the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Celebrate this anniversary on December 10 with the whole family at Hull-House. This Jane Addams Day is about hope, creativity, resilience, and reflection. The day will include hands-on arts workshops with teaching artist Chanel Thomas, improvisational games and more!
